#ditchthedisposables
We are currently living in Pakistan. I work in an office where people forget to take their cups to get a cup of tea and so use a disposable one. I've been talking - and today someone said that because of me they were using their own mug and they had been washing out the same straw for the past few weeks! Small steps. Baby steps.
My current focus is to look at reducing or stopping the use of disposables in the workplace.I'm trying to raise awareness within the office and broader community about where their plastic waste goes - and how to reduce the amount of waste we generate in the first place. I find it interesting how difficult it can be to bring about a change in behaviour and I'm looking at different ways to bring about that change. Raising awareness through posters and other materials is one way, but also looking at price incentives. In my previous job they introduced a charge for disposable cups. At 10p it made a bit of a difference but not really enough - is it that people want to buy a coffee on their way to work and just find it "easy" to get a disposable cup?
I've been really taken by some of the simple visuals which organisations use and am working on adapting some for use around the office and surrounding facilities (cafes etc). Ones such as this one from RiverandBeachcare:
Other campaigns I'm looking out for include:
#ditchthedisposables
#plasticchallenge
#plasticfree
#plasticpollution
Please send me more ideas!
